Erica Molinari’s first collection was created in 2005, after having an illustrious 18 year career as a member of the National Luge team and as a competitor in the Winter Olympic Games, both in Calgary, Canada in 1988 and in Albertville, France in 1992. Being an athlete was a “love of sport” and “you have to have the same drive to commit to anything you enjoy”. Erica’s husband was her muse and pushed her into taking metalsmithing classes. Instantly she began to apprentice for herself and found that was the best way to learn the trade.
Erica was influenced by old Greek coins and she has put her spin on them, offering a very unique collection. The original charm is completely designed and hand carved, giving an old world hand crafted feeling to each piece. Ninety percent of her collection is double sided giving the end customer two looks for the price of one. They have substance by virtue of their weight (solid 14k & sterling silver) which is a bonus. The work is done in Molinari’s studio in New York’s West Village – so attention to detail with the finishing and quality of workmanship is priority. Many of the charms have Latin messages and customers are encouraged to collect the charms and to wear them as “multi charm” necklaces.
